"Wusu" means "Dark Crisp" in Chinese. It is widely considered the best Yangmei tasting variety and the fruits are most expensive in China. The flesh is thick, exceptionally fine and soft, juicy, and aromatic with a high sugar content. It has a small, crisp pit and is considered of "top-tier" quality.
- Excellent texture and flavor - soft, juicy and very sweet, though fruits are small (~10g);
- Distinctive large, protruding purple-red fruit stalk (pedicel), nearly spherical, turning purplish-black to charcoal black upon maturity;
- Tree is vigorous and the leaves are wedge-shaped with rounded or slightly pointed tips;
- Productivity is lower than other varieties;
- The plant is grafted on Myrica Cerifera rootstock which is much hardier and faster-growing than those grafted Yangmei rootstock.

Origin
Wusu Bayberry is a rare and prestigious variety within the "Wumei" (dark plum) category. It originated in the mountainous regions in Guangdong Province.
